Beard andMustache

We know that an impeccable image is a priority for many people, and that attention to detail is key in this type of care.

At Gardel Hair Restoration Institute we are constantly developing new techniques applied to Beard Grafting to renew your image, and the impeccable Gardel Technique  that characterizes us, helps to achieve the most ambitious objectives in image renewal with the perfection and naturalness in results that the highest technology of the moment allows today.

Beards and mustaches are commonly known as ‘facial hair’, and are part of the secondary sexual characteristics, i.e. it is one of the physical characteristics that differentiate us between men and women.

Facial hair is most common in the area of the mustache, temples, chin and sometimes on the cheeks. For men, since ancient times, beards and mustaches have been a major sign of masculinity, virility, class and personality. However, their presence is most often determined by genetic factors. For this reason their growth in men can be: very abundant, partial, incipient, null or beardless.

For those beardless men, beard or mustache, who have scarce hair due to genetic, surgical and/or scarring causes, the best remedy nowadays is the beard graft.

BEARD AND MUSTACHE GRAFTING
It is considered a refinement of hair transplantation, being in Gardel part of our specialties and skills, designed to:

•  Permanently restore hair where there is none.

•  Hide acne scars.

•  Repairing surgical scars, burns or other types of accidents.

FAQs about Beard and Mustache Grafting
In which areas can it be transplanted?
The most common are in the mustache and chin regions, as well as the cheeks, sideburns or to give density to existing hair.
Where is it obtained from?
The donor hair, i.e. the hair that is removed for transplantation, is obtained from the back of the head, as the hair in this area resembles the structure of facial hair, so much so that it can be shaved like facial hair. The only difference between the hair on the back of the head and facial hair is that they have to be carefully selected as beard and mustache hair has its own peculiarity: - Their follicle or root produces a single hair. - Its conformation is of a diameter with a greater thickness or thickness.
How is it removed?
The surgical techniques used at Gardel Hair are the same as those used for hair transplants in men and women: F.U.S.S. technique and F.U.E. Technique
How do you select the ideal hair for a beard or mustache transplant?
At Gardel we have microscopic technology that allows us to study, extract and process each follicular unit appropriately and individually, thus ensuring that after the implantation there are no visible scars.
How is the beard graft implanted?
Three steps of implantation and orientation are carried out, carefully selecting and designing each graft with the use of microscopes, we ensure that an aesthetic density and natural appearance is achieved. At Gardel Hair, before starting the implantation of the donor hair we make a work design that goes according to the shape of the patient's face and above all makes it look aesthetically natural and undetectable. On the selected work plan, tiny incisions are made one by one, with an angle of direction and inclination identical to the facial hair. On each micro incision and with the exact angle of orientation, each graft of one or two hairs is implanted and distributed individually.
What type of anesthesia is used?
As it is an outpatient procedure, it is performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, which allows for a painless effect both during the surgery and after the transplant.
How long does the procedure take?
The surgical time is 5 to 10 hours and this will depend on three aspects: - Areas to be transplanted, if it is total or partial (beard, mustache, chin, cheeks and sideburns). - Extraction technique (FUSS or FUE). Usually with the FUE technique it takes twice as long because of the detail involved in extracting each graft individually. - Number of grafts contracted.
How is the recovery period on the transplanted area?
Immediately after the procedure and on the grafted areas will be slightly swollen for a period of no more than 3 to 5 days. This allows the patient to be able to return or travel home the same day and resume (non strenuous) activities. In addition, there will be a small scab around each grafted hair, which will fall off on its own within two weeks. There is no special care or medication, just gentle washing and keeping the transplanted areas ‘dry’.
What is the recovery period on the donor area like?
This will depend on the desired extraction technique, the techniques are shown below: If it is performed with the FUSS technique (band technique), removable and/or dissolvable suture is placed, where the removable suture is removed 10 days after the procedure and the dissolvable suture disappears on its own after 15 days. The care to be taken with both sutures is only hygiene and the use of topical antibiotics on the scar for a period of 10 days. If it is performed with the FUE technique (one by one technique), no type of suture is used as each graft is extracted individually leaving only a small circular scab, which with hygiene and the application of topical antibiotic for 10 days will fall off by itself.
When will I see the results?
You will begin to see the results from the 3rd month after the transplant and, above all, for the rest of your life.
